Greeting from JSPACI

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce you that the 59th annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology (JSPACI) will take place as the 2022 JSPACI-APAPARI Joint Congress co-hosted by the Asia Pacific Academy of Pediatric Allergy, Respiratory & Immunology (APAPARI) on 12-13 November 2022.

Venues are Okinawa convention center and Laguna Garden Hotel located in the main Okinawa island. In late autumn, the Subtropical climate of Okinawa is warmer than Tokyo and greatly welcomes you.

The theme of the 2022 congress is "Bright future for allergy and children on the earth." The allergy epidemic that emerged in Industrial countries in the late 20th century has spread worldwide. Modernized lifestyles with environmental changes, including urbanization and electrification, are associated with decreased biodiversity, resulting in not only allergy epidemics but also many other non-communicative diseases, including type I diabetes, developmental disorders, inflammatory bowel diseases, and childhood cancers.

The global environmental crisis has been recognized as global warming associated with CO2 increase. However, we cannot overcome the fundamental crisis of our earth only by decreasing CO2 emissions. The allergy epidemic we have been facing for decades suggests that our way of thinking and behavior should be modified, and we should protect the biodiversity on earth.

Okinawa islands have well-reserved nature, and we can be more sensitive to feel natural environment, although parts of them have been facing an ecological crisis. I have been working in Tokyo for more than quarter-century, and the COVID-19 pandemic gave me an opportunity to reflect on our life and environment. In 2022, I think Okinawa is the best place to discuss how to realize a bright future for allergies and children on earth.

Although the 2022 JSPACI-APAPARI Joint Congress has been planned as a hybrid congress in case of coping with the influence of COVID-19, we look forward to seeing many participants in Okinawa in November 2022.

Yukihiro Ohya
Congress president,
2022 JSPACI-APAPARI Joint Congress

Sincerely yours,

Greeting from APAPARI

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to invite you to 2022 APAPARI congress in conjunction with the 59th annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology (JSPACI). The joint JSPACI-APAPARI 2022 Meeting is going to be held in the most southern island of Japan, Okinawa, from 12 to 13 in November 2022. Okinawa is so close to South East Asia that it is convenient for all APAPARI members to join. In the past 2 years, our congresses were so much affected by COVID-19 pandemic, which resulted in "virtual congress" in 2020 (Kyoto) and 2021 (Seoul). Even though virtual congresses have merits to some extent, however, we are so eager to have in-person communication internationally.

The local organizers have decided to have a hybrid congress. The local organizers have done a fantastic job setting up this hybrid meeting, selecting an international group of excellent speakers, and I urge you to check the program at the website of the meeting. I am sure you will discover new findings in pediatric allergy, respirology, and immunology.

Allergic diseases in children still constitute a growing health problem, affecting millions of children and their families in the Asia-Pacific region and having a considerable socioeconomic impact worldwide. I am sure that more research in Asian countries is needed, aiming to solve specific Asian issues in pediatric allergy, country-specific issues.

Beautiful seawater and nice weather in Okinawa are waiting for your participation in this joint activity. We are looking forward to this exciting hybrid meeting from Okinawa, Japan, in November 2022.

Warm regards,

Motohiro Ebisawa
President APAPARI (2021- )
